Climate decides this more than season does. If your winters are mild, a cotton knit will carry most of the year — it breathes in a way cashmere doesn't, which is what makes it work when the afternoon turns warmer than the morning promised. If you're layering under a coat, cashmere gives you the warmth without the bulk, and it stays comfortable indoors, where a heavy cotton can start to feel like too much.

They stay white far longer if you keep them off the shoulder of a bag and out of the tumble dryer — heat and friction are what dull pale yarn fastest. Store folded, never hung. A hanger stretches the shoulder, and that shows more on white than on any other colour.

The lighter, open knits pass more light than the same knit would in navy or black. A nude or white camisole underneath settles it, which is what most people do. Heavier ribs and shaker stitches are opaque.

Dry cleaning is what we recommend across everything here, cotton included — it holds shape and colour, and on white the colour half matters more than people expect. Most days you won't need it: rest the piece on a rack after wearing, then a light steam. If you do wash at home, hand-wash only — cool water, white with white, lay flat away from heat. Never machine-wash, never tumble dry. Always follow the care label on your garment; if it differs, the label takes precedence.
